Course Description
This course introduces students to the basic principles of corporation law in Australia and its historical significance. Students will gain an insight into how the statutory regime of corporate regulation intersects with common law and equitable developments and learn how to apply the principles of corporations law studied.

Administration of companies
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission
Corporate personality rights and liabilities
The constitution of the company
Contracts, torts, crimes
Finance for the corporation
Shareholders rights and duties
Controls and management of the corporation
Corporation accounts, role of auditors and categories of negligence
External admission of corporations
Acquisition of shares and securities regulation.
OUTCOMES
Students will expand their knowledge and skills to:
1. understand the basic principles of corporations law and its historical significance
2. recognise how the principles applicable to corporations law operate in practice
3. identify how the statutory regime of corporate regulation intersects with common law and equitable developments
4. apply the principles of corporations law studied.
Suitable for
The Accounting Continuing Education Program (ACEP) courses are especially designed for those who:
want to qualify for membership of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) Australia or The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)
have overseas accounting qualifications
want to broaden or update their knowledge or accounting and law
need a conversion course to qualify for associate membership of CPA Australia
